Botash is Botswana's sole producer of soda ash and salt, extracting and processing trona mineral from the Sua Pan evaporation lake in the Makgadikgadi region to manufacture dense and light soda ash (sodium carbonate) and refined industrial salt. A joint venture between the Botswana government and Kulczyk Investments, Botash supplies soda ash to regional glass manufacturers, detergent producers, and chemical companies. Its output makes Botswana one of sub-Saharan Africa's few soda-ash exporters.
