The ISO 3941:2026 standard introduces Class L, a dedicated fire category for lithium-ion batteries. These fires-common in smartphones, laptops, EVs, e-bikes, scooters, and energy storage systems-are driven by thermal runaway, where a failing cell produces extreme heat, flammable and toxic gases, and can quickly spread to neighboring cells, often reigniting after flames appear out.
