CONACADO (Confederación Nacional de Cacaoteros Dominicanos) is a farmer-owned cocoa cooperative founded in 1988 in San Francisco de Macorís, representing over 10,000 smallholder cacao farmers across the Dominican Republic. The cooperative operates a state-of-the-art $30 million processing plant producing cocoa beans, liquor, butter, cake, and powder, exporting approximately 70% to Europe and 30% to the US. The Dominican Republic produces 70% of the world's certified organic cocoa, and CONACADO is the country's largest single supplier, certified Fairtrade, USDA Organic, and EU Organic.
