Kakira Sugar Works, established in 1930 by the Madhvani Group, is Uganda's largest sugar producer with a crushing capacity of 9,000 tonnes of cane per day and annual sugar output of approximately 180,000 tonnes. Located on the shores of Lake Victoria in Jinja, the company operates integrated cane estates, a refinery, and a power co-generation plant. Kakira supplies most of Uganda's sugar demand and exports packaged sugar to Kenya, Tanzania, Rwanda, and South Sudan.
