SNIM is the state-owned iron ore mining company and the backbone of the Mauritanian economy. Operates the Guelb El Aouj and Guelb II open-pit mines in the Zouerate region, producing over 13 million tonnes of iron ore concentrate annually. One of Africa's largest iron ore exporters, shipping primarily to European and Asian steel mills via the Nouadhibou port.
