About
The Avedis Zildjian Company is the world's oldest cymbal manufacturer, headquartered in Norwell, Massachusetts, USA. Founded in Constantinople in 1623 by Avedis Zildjian -- an Armenian alchemist who discovered the bronze alloy that became the cymbal standard -- the company has been family-owned for 15 generations. Zildjian manufactures cymbals in the A Zildjian, K Zildjian, K Custom, A Custom, S Series, L80 Low Volume, and ZXTREME series, covering hi-hats, ride cymbals, crash cymbals, and specialty percussion instruments. All high-end cymbals are cast from the proprietary B20 bronze alloy (80% copper, 20% tin) at the Norwell foundry, where each cymbal is hand-hammered and lathed by trained craftsmen. The company also manufactures drumsticks under the Vic Firth brand and brushes and mallets for percussion applications. Zildjian distributes through music instrument dealers and national distributors in over 100 countries, serving professional touring drummers, studio session players, and music educators. Wholesale programs include full-line dealer agreements with minimum inventory commitments and artist-supported marketing programs.
