En 1935, lorsque Sadakathulla Hajiar effectua son premier voyage d'affaires en Amérique par bateau, il quittait Ceylan (aujourd'hui Srilanka) et était l'un des pionniers à quitter le pays pour commercialiser des pierres précieuses fines. Succédée par son fils M.S.M.Kamil, la société a lancé son réseau pour vendre des saphirs et autres pierres précieuses de première qualité dans la plupart des pays européens et en Asie de l'Extrême-Orient. De nombreuses grandes marques mondiales s'approvisionnent en pierres précieuses fines de Ceylan via KAMIL. Aujourd'hui, l'entreprise est dirigée par Ruzwan Kamil, la troisième génération du secteur, et s'est étendue à de nouveaux marchés comme la Chine et la Russie.
