F.Scott MacLeod est né à Sydney, en Nouvelle-Écosse. Après avoir vécu et travaillé en Ontario pendant de nombreuses années, il est revenu en Nouvelle-Écosse en 1999 et réside maintenant à Lunenburg. La peinture à l'huile sur toile a dominé sa vie professionnelle d'artiste. Autodidacte et influencé par Matisse, Modigliani et Diebenkorn, la technique de MacLeod est spontanée et picturale mais pas trop réfléchie. Il s'appuie sur l'utilisation inorganique de la couleur pour défier les conventions et produire des œuvres toujours originales. Les superbes paysages fictifs et littéraux de MacLeod s'inspirent de la beauté majestueuse de la Nouvelle-Écosse et de l'Est du Canada. Les figures abstraites suggèrent des personnalités idiosyncratiques et lui offrent une autre occasion d'exprimer ses vifs talents d'observation.
