Barenbrug Group is a Dutch privately owned seed company founded in 1904 in Arnhem, specialising in the development and production of forage grass, turf grass and herbage legume seeds. Core products include perennial ryegrass, Italian ryegrass, tall fescue, sheep fescue, red clover, white clover, alfalfa and herb blends for dairy, beef and equine forage systems, alongside sports turf, lawn and landscaping grass varieties. Barenbrug operates breeding stations in the Netherlands, France, Belgium, Italy, the United States, Argentina and Australia, allowing the company to develop varieties adapted to temperate, continental, Mediterranean and Southern Hemisphere conditions. Barenbrug family ownership for more than a century has enabled long breeding cycles typical of cross-pollinated grass species. Seed distribution runs through national agri-dealer channels, cooperative seed wholesalers and direct accounts with turf merchants in more than 70 countries. Specific grass varieties are produced under contract farming arrangements in New Zealand, Oregon, Denmark and the Netherlands, which are among the world's leading grass seed production regions.
