W piecu na pellet nie pali się polana, ale pelety: małe sprasowane pelety drzewne. W porównaniu do drewna opałowego pellet spala się wydajniej i pozostawia mniej pozostałości. Piec na pellet emituje mniej CO₂ i drobnych cząstek, dzięki czemu jest bardziej przyjazny dla środowiska niż piece na drewno. Dodatkowo pellet drzewny posiada certyfikaty DIN plus i NF, co oznacza, że jest produkowany w sposób zrównoważony i ekologiczny.
