SESVanderHave is a Belgian sugar beet seed company headquartered in Tienen, Flemish Brabant, formed through the merger of SES (Societe Europeenne des Semences) and Van der Have, two pioneering beet seed breeders. The company focuses exclusively on sugar beet genetics, developing varieties for the European sugar industry and for beet producers in North Africa, Turkey and Central Asia where new beet sugar processing capacity has expanded. SESVanderHave breeders work at stations in Belgium, France, the Netherlands, Germany, Romania and Chile, conducting multi-year recurrent selection and hybrid seed production programmes. Core breeding targets include Beet Necrotic Yellow Vein Virus (Rhizomania) resistance, Cercospora leaf spot tolerance, cyst nematode resistance and high extractable sugar yield per hectare. Products are sold through national seed dealer networks, sugar company seed subsidiary programmes and direct accounts with cooperative sugar beet producer associations. The Belgian regulatory environment and cooperative sugar industry give SESVanderHave strong institutional relationships with the Belgian sugar sector while the international portfolio reaches growers in more than 20 countries.
