Bugisu Cooperative Union, founded in 1954 on the slopes of Mount Elgon, is Uganda's oldest coffee cooperative, representing 20,000+ smallholder farmers growing washed arabica coffee at 1,500-2,300m altitude. Bugisu arabica has a bright acidity and winey character prized by specialty roasters in Europe, Japan, and North America.
