Hwange Colliery Company is Zimbabwe's sole large-scale coal mining operation, extracting bituminous and coking coal from the Hwange coalfield in Matabeleland North Province — the largest coalfield in sub-Saharan Africa outside South Africa. Listed on the Zimbabwe Stock Exchange, the company supplies domestic thermal coal to Zimbabwe Power Company's Hwange Thermal Power Station and exports coking coal to regional steel mills in Zambia, DRC, and South Africa. Hwange also produces coal-based products including briquettes for household energy consumers.
